Sustainable development
One of the most frequent terms used in our present society is sustainable development. However the correct meaning of this expression is only known by a few people. The Environment and Development World Committee of the UN published a report in 1987 with the title “Our joint future”, describing the possibility of a new era based on the realization of global sustainable development, which would preserve natural resources and which could be a solution for the quickly increasing poverty in the developing countries.
The meaning of the concept of sustainable development was described in the report in the following very short way: “sustainable development is a development which satisfies the present needs without endangering the chances of the future generations to satisfy their needs.”
Sustainable development aims at creating a society which:
- using natural resources efficiently and cautiously
- minimizing the created wastes through as much recycling as possible
- restricting environmental pollution
- valuing and protecting the diversity of nature

Eco-Tourism
Based on the above mentioned reasons, it is understandable now why sustainable development has been such an important term when planning the Visitors’ Center for the Gyulavári Castle. The lack of industrial factories has caused serious economical and social tension in the concerned region. However this situation offers great potentials regarding the future. The perfectly preserved natural values offer such possibilities for the future, which could only be achieved by other regions through very big efforts.
Naturally the forming of attitudes is also very important concerning sustainable development and in the realization of the above determined principles. This is why this topic has been given a whole building among the exhibitions of the Castle. We would like to put emphasis on organic farming and ecological tourism.
